Zebrafish Group
The EBTC’s Zebrafish Work Group (ZWG) was formed to carry out a systematic review of the Zebrafish Embryotoxicity Test as a predictor of developmental toxicity in the standard international test for this outcome, namely, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) test guideline 414 (TG414), “Prenatal Developmental Toxicity Study.” The ZWG is relying on the ongoing output of the EBTC’s Methods Work Group, which is addressing the methodological needs of the community of toxicologists who pioneer implementation of systematic review in toxicology.
The ZWG’s review is following the steps of a Cochrane Collaboration review of diagnostic test accuracy. The ZWG’s review will focus primarily on the performance of the Zebrafish Embryo Test in identifying whether or not chemicals are developmental toxicants, as compared with TG414 (performed in rats or rabbits), and secondarily address predictions of specific development effects such as mortality, gross organ malformations, and altered growth of the embryo.
